Fried Rice Cooker Recipe

For the rice:
1 cup short-grained rice
1 cup water
Other ingredients:
1 small tomato
1/2 orange bell pepper, diced into 1/3-inch cubes
1/2 yellow bell pepper, diced into 1/3-inch cubes
2 Chinese celery stalks, thinly sliced
3 shiitake mushrooms, diced into 1/3-inch cubes
1/4 onion, diced into 1/3-inch cubes
3 oz ham steak, diced into 1/3-inch cubes
1 tablespoon cilantro stems, minced
2 stalks scallions, the green part, minced
Sauce:
1 tablespoon oyster sauce
1 tablespoon soy sauce
Pinch of salt
Pinch of white pepper
Pinch of sugar
1 teaspoon sesame oil
Instructions
1. Prep the Ingredients:
Dice the orange and yellow bell peppers, Chinese celery, shiitake mushrooms, onion, and ham. Mince the cilantro and scallions.
2. Make the Sauce:
In a bowl, mix together the oyster sauce, soy sauce, salt, white pepper, sugar, and sesame oil. Stir well to combine.
3. Prepare the Rice:
Add rice to your rice cooker. Rinse it under water, discarding the water afterward. Then add 1 cup of fresh water to the rice cooker.
4. Layer the Ingredients:
Place the tomato in the middle of the rice. Then, add the diced bell peppers, celery, shiitake mushrooms, onion, ham, and cilantro stems on top of the rice.
5. Cook:
Close the rice cooker lid, set it to the “Rice” setting, and press start. Wait until the rice cooker completes the cycle.
6. Finish & Serve:
Once the rice cooker finishes, uncover it and pour in the prepared sauce. Mix everything well until the rice and vegetables are evenly coated. Serve and enjoy!
Tips & notes
- Be sure not to stir the ingredients before cooking—layering them keeps the texture and flavors more distinct.
- Use fully cooked ham steak or swap it out for tofu, cooked shrimp, or another protein of your choice.
- You can scale this recipe to suit the size of your rice cooker, but be cautious not to exceed the maximum fill line.
